Professional class data recovery tool Flash Doctor v1.4 beta test has started

As the arrival of the digital age, more and more digital products are coming into our lives besides PC: mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, GPS, USB pendrive, MP3 players and so on; all these products, most of the time, use micro storage devices and most of these storage devices use flash chips.

Because of the increasing usage of the flash storage devices, there is an urgent need towards the data recovery technology against data loss of flash devices from the professional data recovery companies; as nowadays the competition of the data recovery industry is rather drastic, the backwardness in technology results in an elimination in the competition. The possession of leading technology is now one of the elements for the competitors to stay alive and keep developing.

Therefore, when SalvationDATA released the Flash Doctor on September 2009, it attracted great attention from the data recovery professionals and companies worldwide. According to the applications, SalvationDATA did not fail the expectations of the customers; Flash Doctor has achieved a success rate of over 50% in real practices, and this has been a great achievement considering there are thousands of flash products included in the application. Of course, there is the great help from our technical support team to the users behind this fantastic result.

Since the product became available one month ago, SalvationDATA technical support department has assigned a great deal of resources to assist the customers in product usage, until now we have dealt with almost 300 cases via remote assistance for the customers, which not only brought direct profit to the customers, but also helped the users to learn and understand the product usage in a much quicker and better manner through remote assistance.

Only the continuous innovation maintains the technology leadership. In the process of providing remote assistance to the huge amount of customers, our technicians gained a lot of operation experiences, meanwhile they met lots of cases which we haven’t seen before, for example: Block is divided into sections, Sections merge into bigger block, only one ID in the entire page, all blocks with same ID participate in the swap, half page and so on. In order to meet the needs of the requirements and improve the success rate towards flash data recovery, SalvationDATA keeps looking for the better solutions; under the joint effort of the powerful R&D team of SalvationDATA, we have provided perfect solutions to the above mentioned problems. On November 2009, right after 2 months of the official launch day of Flash Doctor, we will again provide newer version to the customers in order to ensure the leadership and perfectness of the product. This upgrade will definitely be a milestone for the flash data recovery industry.

Flash Doctor Update Log for v1.40 Beta

1. Add the feature to modify page size.
data recovery tools

For some FLASH device, the program can not correctly detect the real page size; therefore the program provides an option for users to modify page size after analysis. Example, if the program detects the page size as 4224, but users find that data is not complete in a page, namely there is not enough bytes to form a sector. In this case, users can modify the page size and read the chip again.

Procedure for modifying page size:

Step 1. Input added bytes in the blank marked in red as above. Example, if users think that real page size should be 4288, you need to input 64.
Step 2. Click the button of Chip Identification.
Step 3. Read the data from chip once more.

2. Special Page Structure

Generally, data unit in FLASH device are composed of 512 bytes data plus some bytes of service word, i.e. 512+16. However, some FLASH devices have special page structure. The standard data unit is divided into several sections, namely sub data unit is less than 512 bytes. Another special structure is that several data unit will merge into bigger unit, namely the data unit is bigger than 512 bytes.

3. Block is divided into sections

As in the above picture, the data unit has 528 bytes, which is divided into three sections:
Data Unit Size=SectionSize1+SectionSize2+SectionSize3
528=512+16=(176+4)+(168+4)+(168+8)

4. Sections merge into bigger block

As in the above picture, four data units will merge into the data unit:
Data Unit Size=SectionSize1+SectionSize2+SectionSize3+SectionSize4
4288=(1024+50)+(1024+46)+(1024+46)+(1024+50)

5. Half Page

For some FLASH device, data will not be stored in a whole page. Instead, only the first half will be used and the second half will be filled with “FFFF”. Users need to select the option of Half Page, thus the program can correctly collect the data.
