Connect iPhone to PC. Normally iTunes will auto-run first. In iTunes, make sure that "Enable disk use" has been checked in the iPhone Options.

Step 3
Select and checkmark the SMS you want to back up or recover. Click the "Save to Excel Files" button to export Excel files.
