Data Recovery and HDD repair sometimes have the same purpose, for example, when HDD repair is performed to do data recovery, some drives are not detected due to firmware failure, head damage, PCB burnt, motor stuck, platter scratches, etc, you need to repair first and recover the data. But when you are going to use data recovery or hdd repair tools, you must understand which functions are safe to use especially when you need data. Sometimes data recovery and hdd repair go the opposite way: when you perform hdd repair, you destroy the data but you get the drive working again. LIke you do some selfscan, you clear P-list, you write some modules which are not donors, you modify some modules, etc.

Another difference we may notice is that the hardware cost for data recovery is higher than that of hdd repair.

nice info here, litredata, data recovery such as the cases with physical damage, you may be required to find one donor firmware, donor PCB, donor heads, mostly you need to buy a working donor drive. So I agree with your higher hardware cost for data recovery than that for hdd repair.

Data recovery is sometime more complicated and risky and you must be very careful.

SSD data recovery is much more time consuming and much more expensive, more complicated than RAID data recovery, any SSD over 8GB are charged on a case by case basis so far. Anyone with an encrypted SSD should be warned to backup, if the controller gets damaged, it's most likely only the encrypted data can be recovered. If you move into larger SSDs, a 64GB PCIe SSD unit could take a professional technician over a week of nonstop work.
