Basic Principles Of Operation
-
Data Compass is a stand-alone software-hardware complex.
-
Data Compass Software need to work with the Data Compass hardware controller.
-
You can choose "Enable ShadowDisk" option to force creation of on-demand data copy (image) from the device being inspected; the ShadowDisk will contain a sector-by-sector image of the requested area; The sectors read with errors will be skipped and marked for a second try, only the most reliable data will be imaged to the ShadowDisk.
-
The selection of a HDD connected to Data Compass hardware controller port provides to users extended opportunities for drive control while working with it, which is valuable in case of malfunctioning HDDs:
- an opportunity to control power supply and switch it off in critical situations
- an opportunity to control read/ write permit to protect users' original data source
- an opportunity to reinitialize a drive online in case of failures in its operation
- an opportunity to select a specific command for reading (with hardware retries, with software retries, without attempts to retry, extended read latency, skip MBR, etc.)
- an opportunity to switch off 'autorelocation' at reading
- an opportunity to use specific mode (PIO, UDMA) for accessing to the patient drive
- an opportunity to work on image and RAID system directly for recovery
- much more similar opportunities.
You will save much time doing data recovery (especially from RAID system) due to such convenient modes for viewing, analyzing, searching and editing of parameters and data in just one software.
