      1.Western Digital SA Emulation-Head firmware loading

Heads here means: Logical head o and head 1 with firmware
Problems to solve: logical head 0 or logical head 1 is damaged
Failure Symptoms: Power on the HDD, the motor spins and heads start seeking with some cackling noises, after two or three times, the motor stops spinning!
Advantages: You don’t need to open the hard disk and exchange the head, saving your donor head cost and improve your efficiency and data recovery success rate.
Note: Not all Western digital head damages can use this firmware loading solution, please pay attention to the failures symptoms mentioned above.

      2.Hitachi/IBM SA Emulation

   (Hard Drive Firmware Service Area Emulation Technology)

Definition: Initialize the firmware information of a specific hard drive by loading predefined SA resource file onto the memory of the external emulator. In another word, the hard drive will boot itself from the information on the emulator rather than from the native firmware information. By using the SA emulator, user can access the data area directly without repairing the corrupted firmware.
Failure Symptoms: Not detected or detected incorrectly in the bios; Drive freezes during booting up; run slowly make a regular ticking noise at start up
Advantages: You don’t need to find a donor firmware resource file, maximize your data recovery efficiency and success rate.
Upgrade within DC2011: All Hitachi/IBM hard drives series are integrated including the 7232 series and 5450 series. Users just need one click ‘Load Automatically’ and Data Compass will detect the patient hard drive series and load the corresponding resource file.

     3.ShadowDisk Technology


Overview: Before DC was released, Disk Image was a very important phase in data recovery, especially when the drive is in an unstable status; all the data will be imaged from the patient drive to another functional drive by disk imaging tools, and then data recovery will be performed on the functional imaged drive. This traditional procedure has an obvious disadvantage: you need to wait until the disk image finish to recover your data, even what you need is only a few files from the patient drive, you will still need to perform a whole disk image, and the time cost for a disk image will be hours or even days depends on the capacity and the drive status (the more bad sectors it has, the slower the image will be). Now, thanks to DC, data recovery professionals need not to prepare an image for the patient drive before data recovery happens; Pioneered Disk Image Technique - ShadowDisk, which images the sector physically from the defective drive to a functioning drive at the same time when the sector is being requested. So that each sector being requested will first be imaged to a good drive, and then the read/write request will be directed to the image disk. You don't need to spend lots of time to create an image, but actually you are working on an image when using DC with the patient drive.
