Head instability problem
This is a HITACHI ATCS drive, at the first time, the drive always clicking, then the engineer swap the head and the clicking sound disappeared.
First he connected the drive to Doctor, could load from HDD and access the data area, then checked the modules and found some errors (as the follow picture):
Then he connected the drive to DC, but at this time it always BUSY status and couldn’t access the data area either. Back to Doctor again, could be READY status, load from HDD and check the firmware again, find the error modules are difference which compared with the first time:
with refer to the drive’s head has been swap before; I think that’s the apparent symbol of head instability problem.
One of the usually solution is adjusting the head alignment, but there is another solution that when the drive could access the data area with Doctor, keep the power line, then unplug the data line and plug it into DC, and copy the data via DC.
Couldn’t guarantee success each time, but you can try it if you don’t want to adjust the head alignment.
