All seem to be the same, but i know the reason: some hard drives has heating problems that, in a certain time make the hd lost its original shape, the disc then turn into something like lens. When you put in that freezer you have to know 3 important issues:
1- The hd won´t work if any humidity condenses in. The only finality of this is to make it revert deformation and it will last until the hd heats again.
2- Deformation of the hd can´t be reverted. Indeed, this metod wil make it worse once the disk is heated again.
3- if the disk is connected and head is spining well, the data reads well, and you have anothe hard drive to put the data in, then you can backup the data. But you have to be selective, the disk will heat in an hour or less if you do massive transfer. If you do this many times, each time will be more dangerous, if the disk have a short circuit or the plate is wet in the minimum that can be, the disk will be lost and maybe your pc will have some energy problem-
